HOMEPAGE
'Ammunition combine lyrical genius in the form of Joe Francis with a time tested style that will endure beyond the fads and fashions that are currently overwhelming the UKs music scene...' Laura Snape, NME.
Ammunition are from St Agnes on the North Coast of Cornwall, set within a rugged and beautiful landscape that has undoubtedly inspired and forged itself into their music.
Cornish songwriter, Joe francis met guitarist, Westy through a mutual friend in 2005. ‘I had broken my arm skateboarding a few weeks previously, and it was in a solid cast untill the morning of our first gig’ remembers Westy. A desicion to take the band more seriously prompted ‘Joe Francis and The Ammunition’, as they were known at the time, to look for a more permanent drummer. They approached the percussion tutor at the local college, a hotspot for aspiring young musicians, and asked for the best drummer he knew of, he pointed them in the direction of Ashley Maurice James.
The newly named ‘Ammunition’ began life gigging around the pubs and clubs of Cornwall as a three piece, performing the bulk of the songs that were to later comprise their debut album, ‘The Lost William Testament’, as well as a few choice covers by retro rock bands such as The Police and Led Zeppllin. Before long they had gained an enthusastic following as a result of their increasingly popular live shows.
By June 2006 they had been heard by producer James Hallawell at a gig at the Driftwood spars, St. Agnes. Thus Ammunition were signed to independent label Public Records and, with James assistance and the addition of bass player Stuart Clay, began the exciting task of turning their energetic, electic live set into their debut album.
Dreams came true when James informed the band that they were to be recording their debut album at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios. ‘We were joking about how great it would be to record there after looking at a Beatles book with James and the band’ says Joe ‘Within a few days James called and said ‘Good news: We’re going to Abbey Road’.
‘The Lost William Testament’ was released on Monday 9th July 07, in Cornwall to much local acclaim, being championed by numerous magazines and broadcasters.
Shortly after The Abbey Road sessions bass player Stuart Clay departed the band. A replacement was found in the form of Joe Bosher-kempton who, being an active member of the Cornish music scene, was already familiar with Ammunition and there standing within the county.
In September 2006 Ammunition performed live in Northern Ireland to 10,000 people. As a result of their persistant touring Ammunition are constantly increasing their following and receive airplay from both Local and National radio stations.
2007 sees Ammunition gracing the stage at a whole host of venues across the UK including a performance alongside The Dirty, Pretty Things and get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly at Cornwall’s prestigious 'K-Fest'.
It is expected that the same artistry and high energy fuelled shows that has afforded Ammunition so much success across the UK will carry them into the esteem of the greater public gallery
